FC Green Bay U18 Boys Orange - Neenah United (3-2)
The FC Green Bay U18 Boys team played their first Premier State League game of the year this past Sunday (April 20). It appeared that coach Detrie's boys were enjoying the nice sunny afternoon a bit too much when the Neenah team scored, on a header at the 2nd post, within 8 minutes of the start of the game. Reason for Coach Dennis Detrie to get out of his chair and fire up his squad.
The reward came not too much later. Tony Starnes (UW Oshkosh, fall 2008) received the ball on the right flank and he was able to find fellow forward Noah Webb for the score, after some great dribble penetration into the box. Joshua Chamberlain (UW Green Bay, fall 2008) put the FCGB team ahead (2-1) before half time with a "screamer" on the ground from about 23.2 yards out, this after a poor clearance from the Neenah United defense.
The Neenah half time "tea" seemed to have some better herbs in it than the FCGB tea as Wuebben (returned to the Neenah team after a long spell with injuries) tied the game with a great shot.
What turned out to be the game winning goal was scored after the Neenah keeper "spilled the goods" and Chamberlain cleaned up the scraps after FCGB midfielder Ian Martin (Cardinal Stritch University, fall 2008) put a free kick high into the box.
The FCGB back four, with Kurt Mueller, AJ Fameree (Edgewood, fall 2008), Mike Ohnesorge (UW Green Bay, fall 2008) and Justin Gerhartz (FCGB U17 Boys) who came on to replace the injured Dylan Osadjan (Ft Lewis College, fall 2008), succesfully defended the 3-2 lead in the last 15 minutes. FCGB goalkeeper Eric Cotter (U17 Boys) also made a key save in the last 5 minutes of the game.
Also worth mentioning was the fact that former team manager Tom Webb passed the stopwatch on to new manager Tom Fameree, who ended up having a two minute difference with the center referee after the first half.
Next weekend the 18 boys team will be at UW Parkside playing Red Star U18 boys.
U17 Boys Orange play three games in MRL (1-1-1)
The U17 Orange team played their first 3 games in the Midwest Regional League in Rockford IL.
FCGB - Champlin Rebels, MN (1-1)
In a very intense and high level soccer game the Rebels team ended up scoring the tying goal with about 2 minutes left in the game. FCGB had a few opportunities to put the game away by scoring their 2nd goal, they did not. According to the "unwritten" rules of the game this often results in a score by the other team, as it did in this early am game at the Sportscore Complex in Rockford.
FCGB scored in the 1st half on a beautiful one touch volley by Alex Drabes after a cross from Andrew Ribiero.
FCGB - Eden Prairie Crew, MN (1-0)
Both teams did not play particularly sharp in their 2nd game of the day. Andrew Stone scored the winning goal after a free kick hit into the box by Doug Johnson. FCGB center back Paul Giesler was the Man of the Match. Goalkeepers Tony Klingert and Eric Cotter combined for the shutout.
FCGB - Campton United, IL (0-1)
Another high level game on sunday morning. Unfortunately the FCGB team started a bit slow and went down a goal early on after some shaky defending in the first 10 minutes of the game. The boys in Orange clawed their way back into the game and were very unfortunate to not get the well deserved tying goal. Anthony Santaga came close when he hit the post in the dying minutes of the game.
FCGB U17 Boys Blue - Stevens Point (6-4)
It was a crazy debut for coach Quinn Ross with his U17 Boys Blue team. In a 1st division State League game in Stevens Point a whopping 10 goals were scored, 2 pk's were given, and the FCGB team came back from being 2-4 down at half time.
FCGB player Taylor Houston scored 4 goals, and had an assist. The other FCGB goals were scored by James McMahon and Hunter Yewman. Alexander Ribiero had two assists. Next weekend another away game, this time in Brookfield.
FCGB U13 Boys Orange - Brookfield Red (2-2)
The U13 Boys played their first State League game of the Spring in Brookfield. Coach Kulas's guys were up 2-0 at halftime and ended up with a 2-2 game. A game with two halfs according to the coach. FC Green Bay could have had an even bigger lead in the first half, but the just recently relegated (former Premier League team) Brookfield team fought it's way back into the game and almost ended up stealing the win. Austin Jepson and Edgar Bennet scored for the FCGB team.
Next weekend, two games, Saturday vs MYSC Yahara at home and Sunday vs GB Lightning, a local rivalry at AKZO Nobel in Howard.
