FCGB U13 Boys Orange - MYSC Blue (2-3)
After giving away a 2-0 lead at half time last week in Brookfield (2-2 Tie), it appeared for a long time that the FCGB U13 Boys team was going to do the same again on this day, until a seemingly harmless cross ended up in the back of the FCGB net with 2 minutes left in the game. Both teams had to battle some absolutely dreadful conditions on this cold, extremely windy and cloudy day. On what initially appeared to be a great day for the FCGB team, Brett Thompson put the Orange ahead with a clinical finish on a great through ball from Austin Jepson. Still in the first half, Michael LaTorre put away the 2nd goal after an initial shot from Edgar Bennett. The 3-0 was in the air but did not fall before half-time.
The half-time talks from "guest coaches" Quinn Ross and Wytse Molenaar did not have the effect that they intented them to have, as the Middleton Yahara team immediately came back in the game after multiple bad clearances from the FCGB defense. The guests had been given hope and they never took their foot off the pedal, leaving the guys in Orange on their heels for the entire 2nd half. A game with two halves, the wind definitely played it's part in determining these halves, but the FCGB team was never able to match the MYSC players intensity and workrate in the 2nd half, ultimately resulting in the loss.
Green Bay Lightning - FCGB U13 Boys Orange (0-1)
The U13 Boys Orange team won the local showdown against Green Bay Lightning's U13 Boys team on Sunday April 27 at PineCrest Fields in Howard.
Michael LaTorre scored, what turned out to be the game winning goal in the 15th minute of the first half. FC Green Bay goalkeeper Marty Metzler had his, well deserved, first shutout of the spring season.
FCGB should have put the game away in the 2nd half but some good saves from the Lightning keeper and a few misplaced and unlucky shots from the FCGB attack lead by their playmaker Austin Jepson, kept the score at 0-1. In fairness the Lightning team did create some opportunities of their own, a rocket shot from 25 yards away came dangerously close to going into the net behind Marty. In the 2nd half Zach Lueders did a great job shutting down the dangerous GB Lightning right wing player, who had presented the FCGB backline with some serious problems in the 1st half of the game. The other "components" of the solid FCGB backline, Jonah Jacke, Sean Cropper and Marshall Sprengers helped the boys in Orange take home their first win of the season. Overall a much improved performance over the previous day.
Red Star - FCGB U18 Boys Orange (0-2)
Match Report by Dennis Detrie, U18 Boys Orange team coach
Scoreless at half. Goal dissallowed by Tony Starnes after a shot was deflected by the gk. Correct call but gutsy as I told the ref after the match. (According to Dennis the call was almost as gutsy as him (soon?) asking his future father in law for permission to marry his girlfriend, Sara).
First goal on a throw-in by Chamberlain (Josh) scored by Mike (Ohnesorge). Second goal, free kick from 18 out after Starnes was fouled. Ian (Martin) swerved one through the wall and Mike ("Mosinee" Ohnesorge) put it away for his second goal of the match. U17 Boys Blue player Chris (Packard) stepped in a whole and messed up his ankle pretty bad. he played 2 minutes. (Hope you are doing ok Chris)
